Paragliding Safety

Paragliding Safety

Paragliding is a safe sport when practised with training, approved equipment and good judgement. Safety does not depend on luck: it is prepared before every flight and maintained throughout your career as a pilot.

Pre-flight safety checklist

  • Check the wing, lines and harness
  • Check the forecast and the real wind at take-off
  • Be rested and in good physical shape
  • Carry an approved reserve parachute and helmet
  • Carry a phone or radio and tell someone your flight plan

Equipment in good condition

Before every flight, check the wing, lines, harness, helmet and reserve parachute. Approved equipment that is well maintained and has its inspections up to date is your first safety barrier.

Weather conditions

Do not fly in strong wind, gusts, turbulence or with a risk of storms. Check the forecast, observe the real wind at take-off and, if in doubt, do not take off: there will always be another day to fly.

Training and emergencies

Know the emergency procedures, practise using the parachute and fly with a qualified pilot or instructor. Always tell someone where you are flying and when you expect to land.

Fly safe with professionals

Learn safety and decision-making with certified instructors, approved equipment and supervised flights.

Conclusion: Flying safe is not optional, it is the basis of every flight.
