When we talk about paragliding safety, insurance often takes a back seat. Yet knowing what you are covered for before flying is part of good preparation.
This guide does not replace advice from your insurer, but it helps you know what to ask and what to check.
For those taking a tandem flight
Before booking, ask the operator whether the flight includes any insurance and exactly what it covers. Ask for a clear explanation and, if possible, in writing.
Check your travel insurance
Many travel insurance policies exclude adventure or air sports, or include them only with additional cover. Read the terms or ask your insurer whether tandem paragliding appears as a covered activity.
For independent pilots
If you fly on your own, you need liability and accident insurance specific to paragliding, usually linked to a federation or a licence. Check that it is valid in Morocco and that it covers assistance and repatriation.
What to carry with you
Carry a copy of your policy, the assistance phone number and emergency contact details. If you have any medical condition, say so when you book.
Insurance is no substitute for caution
Insurance covers the consequences of an incident, but the best protection is to fly with certified pilots and equipment in good condition, and to respect decisions about the weather.
Questions worth asking
You can ask: what does the flight insurance cover? Are there age or weight limits? What happens in case of injury? How is medical assistance handled in the area? A transparent operator will answer without a problem.
If something is not clear, ask for it in writing before booking.
Travel insurance and risk activities
Some policies distinguish between occasional risk activities and sports practised regularly. Ask your insurer how it classifies tandem paragliding and whether you need an extension.
It is better to clarify this before the trip than to find out after an incident.
